Connection

Story

When I was 5 years old, my parents bought a piano. I began banging away, taking music lessons, learning to read music and play it. Until one day – I discovered that I could use my ears, my instinct, my creativity to play without sheet music – I could improvise. And create. An entire new world had opened, a new language, new ways of thinking. A place I had not been. This language provided a connection to places and people, past, present and future that was startling; I was seeing the world in new, connected ways that I had difficulty putting into words.

My dad was the deep thinker, sharing stories from the past and connections to things I had not considered. My mom let me know I could do more – like when she challenged me (as only a mom can) to write and submit a valedictory speech. I sat down in the last three available hours, wrote a speech, submitted it with 5 minutes to spare, and was selected as valedictorian. The teachers who judged it noted that it “came from the heart.”

The speech was about people, and the connections and impact of people in our lives, past, present and future.

As I started working, I valued the people part of work the most. I was the crew chief, the assistant manager. After college, I chose the path that would lead quickly to people management. I enjoyed the work of bringing people on, helping them grow, being with them through their tough times and celebrating successes. As my career progressed, I felt out of sync with the work environment and colleagues at times; I began to realize that I wanted less of the functional responsibility and more “people.” I trained as a professional coach; I volunteered hours of coaching internally at my company and with the internal sales university.

At last, I knew that my best work would not come in another functional corporate role, and the next step was clear- I set out on my own journey as a full-time coach. As a coach, I connect people, art and science; individuals, creativity and evidence-based approaches. I love the 1:1 impact and connecting and learning the stories of so many wonderful people who, like me, hope to become stronger individuals and contributors to their families, communities, organizations and the planet.

Vince recognized early in his career the importance of people engagement, to the success of organizations and society. He devoted most of his career to this idea, as a finance, operations, and people leader in the technology industry, with IBM, Siemens Communications, and SAP, serving as a transformative leader and partner for a $2B North America sales organization. Vince also spent time in financial

services with JP Morgan Chase as an IT leader, helping to create significant operational performance improvements in a 24×7, information-intensive environment. In the last decade, Vince devoted more and more time to coaching, mentoring, and employee learning opportunities at SAP until finally launching his own coaching practice in 2019.

As a coach, Vince synthesizes his coaching expertise, his business leadership experience in technology and financial services, and his background in music and creative arts for a unique growth and learning experience for his clients. He starts with the firm belief that all individuals already have the resources and ability to make the progress or attain the solutions they seek. He maintains with certainty that as individuals we know what is best for ourselves, and that we already have some of the answers we seek within us, and that we have the capability to discover the rest. Vince sees his role as that of a change partner, to bring structure and guide a meaningful conversation, over time, to support journeys of personal growth. He does this with complete respect for the individuality of each of his clients; through careful listening, science-based practices, and a knack for challenging clients so that they can unlock their creativity, learning and problem solving.

He welcomes diversity in gender, culture, race and beliefs and loves learning from his clients.

Vince has lived in Philadelphia and the surrounding area for his entire life, captivated by the energy and passion of the people, the historical link to the earliest days of the country and its indigenous people, and the beauty of the area. He’s a life-long musician – writing and (occasionally) performing for friendly audiences in the area, often to support local charitable causes. He is a fan of team sports (Philly sports, in particular), and enjoys reading thought-provoking work from authors and thinkers both current and from long-ago. Vince is married, with two adult “boys” and a mini-dachshund grand-pup who spends a lot of time trying to join him in his home office during work hours.
